60 years after Indians’ gained independence, the Indian Railway throws crucial light (gives a close-to-truth indication) on our average progress when it comes to hygiene.

Note: The word, Indians’ has been used instead of India’s, with intent, in the title.

Delhi has earned itself the reputation of being perpetually under construction. Scores of Flyovers dot the city’s landscape and Delhites are never far from DMRC’s (Delhi Metro’s) barricades in the busiest of places. Well everything comes for a price. Fair enough. But there are stories to be told, away from the flyovers and away from the barricades. Its the story about the daily wagers who keeps the construction ticking, the sun scorched faces that carry the brick on their head from the truck to the track. And it is the story of such children born to such parents, tied to their livelihood, tied to their circumstances, tied to the window.

This was taken outside the Amer Fort in Jaipur, India. Rajasthan is a rich land of ‘canonized’ traditions, which pass on to become a bulk of India’s national traditions. If you are in Rajasthan, you will definitely bump into such traditions on the road and off the road, either preserved or lived. A friend pointed out that the snake charmer on the right looks a bit scared to be charming the snakes. In reality, he is playing an instrument secured under his arms and he was moving forward and backward while playing it.

The lighting was aesthetically done at the Spiti: Daughter of the Sea photo exhibition at the Alliance Française de Delhi. However, my diminutive prosumer Sony DSC H3 could not handle the harsh lighting at the sources and the darker parts of the hall. The shot here was my departing shot as I climbed up the stairs towards the car park. And I think that did the trick. And incase it isn’t 10th of Feb 2010 yet, do visit the exhibition between 11am and 8pm at the Alliance Française de Delhi, Delhi.

Jantar Mantar attracts a lot of young crowd during the weekend. Considered a masterpiece from the old world of astronomy, the entry fee is very nominal (5 to 10 INR for Indians). A beatiful place to be in, if you love clicking people.
